When and what is Mendip Challenge?
Mendip Challenge is our biggest fundraising event of the year with an around 1300 people taking part over 4 different routes traversing the Mendip Hills.
With the 30 milers starting at Wells, the 20 milers at Cheddar, and the 10 and 5 milers taking circular routes around Weston, all participants finish back at Weston Cricket Club for the celebratory crossing of the finish line.
This event has become the flagship event for Weston Hospicecare with many participants taking part year after year – some in an effort to beat last year’s finishing time, some because they’ve built friendships at the event over the years, and for most it is a day when they can truly challenge themselves and fundraise for a cause that is so close to their heart.

What happens on the day?
Everyone registers at Weston Cricket Club at a registration time specific to the route being walked, with the 30 and 20 mile walkers all being coached from their to their relevant starting locations. Across the course will be multiple refreshment points manned by an incredible team of hospice volunteers, back-walkers, route guides and signage at key turning points to keep your on course. And at the end your medal will be waiting for you at the finish line, with your finisher time, medal and access to event photos soon after the event.

Last year’s event raised over £135,000 for Weston Hospicecare (including Gift Aid) which is our best year ever in its 36 year history.

Why Your Participation Matters:
Did you know that Weston Hospicecare only receives around 20% of its funding from the NHS? This means that the majority of our financial support comes from the generosity of individuals and local communities. Events like Mendip Challenge are vital for raising the funds we need to continue providing compassionate end-of-life care.
